Pervaiz Elahi apologises for his insensitive remarks over Fawad’s arrest

Canada Global (Web News) Pervaiz Elahi, a former Chief Minister of Punjab and current PML-Q leader, apologised on Thursday to the family of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, who was arrested earlier this week on sedition-related charges.

Elahi criticised PTI leaders for “misleading” party leader and former prime minister Imran Khan in a statement to the media earlier today. The former chief minister of Punjab stated that he had done his best to persuade the PTI chairman not to dissolve the provincial legislature.

He had stated that “those who were close to Khan sahab [are accountable] for undermining the roots of the party.”

Elahi had stated, “If he was detained sooner, things would have been better,” without mentioning Fawad.

Elahi afterwards apologised for his comments and mentioned that he had known Fawad Chaudhary’s family for a very long time.

I apologise to his family for the hurt my statement has caused,” he stated.

PTI rejects ECP selection of caretaker Punjab CM

Canada Global (Web News) The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vehemently opposed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) appointment of Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi as interim chief minister for Punjab on Sunday, branding “Naqvi” as a “controversial” personality. Naqvi was an opposition nominee.

The decision of the electoral body, which came after the government and opposition were unable to agree on the interim chief executive, appeared to start a new wave of debate in the nation.

According to a statement from the ECP, the meeting, which was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, unanimously decided to name Naqvi as the interim chief minister of Punjab.

Meeting was attended by ECP members Nisar Ahmad Durrani, Shah Mohammad Jatoi, Babar Hassan Bharwana, and Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan.

In the meantime, the ECP sent a letter to the province governor requesting that the oath be administered to Naqvi.

As a result of the lack of agreement, the issue was sent to the electoral body in accordance with Clause 3 of Article 224-A of the Constitution.

The 15 people present at the special meeting of the electoral watchdog included ECP Secretary Umar Hameed Khan, Special Secretary Zafar Iqbal Hussain, director generals and assistant DGs of the pertinent departments.

Fawad Chaudhry, senior vice president of PTI, criticised Naqvi’s nomination as interim chief executive of Punjab and promised to wage a significant battle against “this system”.

Fawad responded, “There are no other options left than to protest this system in the streets.”

He continued by saying that they disagreed with the ECP’s choice to fill the important position with a “controversial” individual. He made fun of the electoral watchdog by remarking, “The ECP never let them down.”

Fawad urged PTI supporters to get ready for Imran Khan’s leadership in a significant campaign.

Fawad Chaudhry cautioned that people would “now make their own conclusions” on Twitter. “[We] condemn the choice of Mohsin Raza Naqvi [as interim chief minister], he stated in his letter.

PTI leader and former education minister, Shafqat Mahmood, criticised the decision: “The one man considered most unsuitable for this position.”

He added, “This amounts to practically giving [PML]N and PPP control of how elections are conducted in Punjab.”

Canada Global (Web News) Mahmood Khan, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), signed and forwarded to KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali a summary for the dissolution of the provincial assembly on Tuesday.

In the “broader interest of the country,” CM Mahmood had already declared his intention to push the dissolution of the KP legislature.

According to the guidelines of Article 112(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, I, Mahmood Khan, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, thus forward my advice for dissolving the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 17, 2023 as 2100.

According to the chief minister, the decision to dissolve the legislature was made in Pakistan’s overall interest.

The recommendation of CM Mahmood to dissolve the Punjab Assembly is currently with Governor Ali.

Even if the governor does not ratify it, the assembly will nevertheless be declared dissolved in the following 48 hours in accordance with the Constitution.

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced the dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies in November of last year.

Discussions with allies and actions done by the core allies, who were in power, caused the plans to be postponed.

On Tuesday, just hours before the KP Assembly was dissolved, Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf finally accepted the resignations of 35 members of the lower house of parliament, including Sheikh Rashid, the head of the Awami Muslim League (AML), and 34 members of the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Asad Qaiser, Qasim Suri, Pervez Khattak, Ali Amin Gandapur, Murad Saeed, Shehryar Khan Afridi, and Imran Khattak are among the lawmakers whose resignations had been accepted. The speaker also accepted Sheikh Rashid’s resignation as the Awami Muslim League.

CM Elahi successful in vote of confidence

Canada Global (Web News) Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi received a vote of confidence from the Punjab Assembly after the opposition walked out, claiming that the vote was “bulldozed” and “unconstitutional” in a typically chaotic session held in the early hours of Thursday.

Speaker Sibtain Khan, who presided over the session, stated that Elahi had received 186 votes, which was exactly the number required to retain his position and one less than the 187 claimed by PTI leaders prior to voting.

Before the vote, the government and opposition lawmakers rekindled their feud around the speaker’s dais, jostling each other. Shortly after, the opposition MPs staged a walkout and boycotted the session.

Outside the Punjab Assembly, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah called the proceedings “against the rules and the Constitution,” and accused the speaker of “bulldozing” the vote of confidence.

The vote of confidence will be challenged in court, according to Sanaullah and another PML-N leader, Ata Tarar.

CM Elahi to obtain vote of confidence on Thursday

Canada Global (Web News) Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will take the vote of confidence on Thursday because the ruling coalition has opted to stage a political power show in the Assembly instead, according to Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum.

Mr. Qayyum had already taken a 30-minute break, and as the CM entered the building, the political fervour increased. However, the treasury benches have chosen to postpone the vote on trust until Thursday and just show the number game in the assembly tonight.

In response to the opposition’s assertion that the ruling coalition lacked the necessary majority, Mr. Qayyum responded, “we showed them the vote total of 185 today.” He continued, “We have one more surprise for the opponents.”

According to sources, PML-Q MPA Hafiz Ammar Yasir was en route to the meeting. His presence would bring the total up to 186, according to the sources.

Under the leadership of CM Elahi, the PTI and PML-Q legislative parties called a joint session to discuss the issue.

Earlier, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry posted on Twitter, “All praise to Allah, 187 has finished our number game. Anytime tonight, the CM would win a vote of confidence. “One of PTI’s Muzaffargarh MPAs was promised Rs1.2 billion [to switch allegiance],” he continued.

According to insiders with knowledge of the situation, the province government’s staff was in touch to arrange for the members to attend the Punjab Assembly.

Punjab CM refuses to take vote of confidence on governor’s order

Canada Global (Web News) On the directives of Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has said that he will not participate in a vote of confidence and has referred to his letter requesting the trust vote as “illegal.”

“I disagree with the governor’s letter requesting a vote of confidence. I would be receiving the letter if I accept the vote of confidence “At a press conference in Lahore, the chief minister remarked.

The action is expected to worsen the political unrest in Punjab, which was put an end to after the Lahore High Court (LHC) restored Elahi as the chief minister after the governor had de-notified him.

On December 23, the court ordered Elahi back in custody and postponed the hearing until January 11. Although the court’s injunction prevented the CM from dismissing the assembly, Elahi was still allowed to cast a vote of confidence, according to the court.

As a result, Elahi’s ally Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) got to work and stated that the chief minister will take the trust vote before January 11 — the hearing date.

However, issues for the CM have emerged after independent lawmaker Syeda Zahra Naqvi claimed that she was a PTI ally rather than Elahi, according to The News. Three PTI members are also reportedly planning to rebel against the party’s decision to support the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader.

The chief minister declared, “The governor wants me to follow his unconstitutional order, but I will not do it,” as the Punjabi ruling coalition fought to keep him in office.

According to CM Elahi, the authorities are still looking into the alleged shooter’s confession statement, who is suspected of attempting to kill PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Wazirabad during the long march in November.
