Ontario expanding firefighter cancer coverage for WSIB claims

Canada Global (Web News) For firefighters, Ontario is boosting workplace cancer coverage.

According to Minister of Labor Monte McNaughton, thyroid and pancreatic cancer in firemen will now be assumed to be related to the job.

He contends that by doing this, firemen will be able to file Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims more quickly.

In order to apply to both present and retired firemen, according to McNaughton, the adjustments will be retroactive to 1960.

According to the province, roughly 60 firemen nationwide pass away from cancer each year, with Toronto accounting for about half of those fatalities.

According to Rob Grimwood of the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs, the action will aid firemen in their recuperations.

Fire investigators as well as full-time, part-time, volunteer, and First Nations firemen are affected by the changes.
