Israel deports Palestinian activist to France

Canada Global (Web News) Israel deported a Palestinian lawyer and activist to France on Sunday after alleging that he is affiliated with a terrorist organisation that is outlawed, prompting a rare denunciation from the French government.

The expulsion of Salah Hammouri brought attention to the vulnerable situation of Palestinians in east Jerusalem, which Israel has annexed, since the majority have revocable residence status but are not Israeli citizens. Additionally, it exacerbated a developing diplomatic controversy with France, which had repeatedly urged Israel to refrain from carrying out the expulsion.

In a statement that was recorded and released early on Sunday, Israel’s interior minister, Ayelet Shaked, declared: “I’m delighted to say that justice was served today and the terrorist Salah Hammouri has been expelled from Israel. “Months of legal wrangling ended with expulsion.
