Canada Global (Web News) Travis Toews, the incumbent finance minister and Grande Prairie-United Wapiti’s Conservative MLA, declared on Friday that he would not run for re-election in May.
Toews published a letter he wrote to his supporters on Twitter.
I have chosen not to run for reelection after giving it serious thought and prayer. Nonetheless, I still have a strong commitment to the United Conservative Party, the conservative movement, and its triumph in May.
It has been an immense honour for him to serve the citizens of Grande Prairie-Wapiti as their MLA and all Albertans in general as their minister of finance, he wrote.
“The support of so many people in our area and across this wonderful province has humbled Kim and me”, I’m grateful.
We especially wish to thank our family and close friends for their steadfast support.
It has been a privilege to serve.
After Jason Kenney resigned, Toews ran for UCP leadership but lost to Danielle Smith.
On May 29, Albertans will cast ballots.
