The chief guest of the event General Qamar Javed Bajwa along with General Asim Munir was welcomed by the guards on arrival at the venue after which the event began with the recitation of Holy Quran after which General Bajwa was presented with a farewell guard of honour.

In a ceremony held at GHQ, outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa handed over the Malaka baton, considered a symbol of army command, to General Syed Asim Munir, the winner of the Sword of Honour, and General Asim Munir assumed command of the Pakistan Army. As soon as he took the baton in his hand, he became the 17th Army Chief.

General Asim Munir attended the ceremony wearing the shoulder rank and collar medal of the four-star general, while the guard of honor was presented to retired Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The ceremony was attended by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chiefs of Armed Forces, senior serving and retired military officers, their families and federal secretaries. Apart from this, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb also attended the event.
