Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest was not ordered by government, says Marriyum

Canada Global (Web News) On Wednesday, Marriyum Aurangzeb, the federal minister for information, refuted claims that the government was responsible for Fawad Chaudhry’s imprisonment by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“We have the same power as the PTI held while in power,” she clarified, “but we will not use it for political victimisation.”

“Some people are making an effort to suggest that Fawad Chaudhry’s imprisonment was motivated by politics. But let me take this chance to be clear: the whole top-tier PTI leadership would be in jail if we decided to arrest [our political opponents].

In a press conference held yesterday outside Imran Khan’s mansion in Zaman Park, Fawad publically “threatened” the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). As a result, police detained him at his home earlier today.

Fawad stated that he is “proud” of the case that has been filed against him while speaking to the media outside of the Lahore court where the police had brought him to request remand.

The police also detained Faraz Chaudhry, the brother of Fawad Chaudhry, when PTI workers protested near GT Road in Jhelum. After a brief arrest, a local magistrate freed him on bail.

The federal minister stated at her news conference that ECP Secretary Omer Hamid Khan, not the government, had filed the initial information report on the case against Fawad (FIR).

“We have been in power for the last nine months, but we avoided the PTI’s strategies. Ministers and Imran Khan himself would attend news conferences while they were in office and explain how his political rivals will be imprisoned later.”
