Edmonton Advocates Are Calling For More Housing Funding After Alberta Budget 2024

 Canada Global(Web News) Alberta’s recently presented provincial budget will allocate some dollars for housing funding, but advocates fear it still won’t be enough to make a real difference.

On February 29, the province announced it would provide $24.5 million in 2024-25 and $70 million over the next three years to support the addition and operational costs of homeless shelters.
Just a week after the budget was announced, Hope Mission was fundraising. Volunteers participated in its annual Cold Hands, Warm Hearts Walkathon.

More than 50 teams traveled up to five kilometers across downtown Edmonton in a fundraiser. The money is to be spent on health care and shelter resources.
“The number of people experiencing homelessness in Edmonton has increased, so the number of people coming to us for services has increased,” said Tim Pasma, director of programming at Hope Mission. So the more resources we have to help people in need, the better
