Judges jailed for 7 years for bribery in Kuwait

Canada Global(Web News) In a historic decision in Kuwait, 7 judges have been sentenced to 7 years in prison for bribery and ordered to pay back bribes. 

According to Arab media, judges in Kuwait had immunity from accountability and punishment, but in a historic decision, judges were sentenced to 7 years in prison, ending this immunity forever.

A businessman named Saleh was arrested in August 2020 on serious charges like money laundering. He was also alleged to have bribed 8 judges to take arbitrary decisions in various cases.

When the scope of the investigation expanded, it revealed the involvement of a lawyer and the head of a key department, for which the lawyer was sentenced to 10 years in prison and the head of the department to 7 years.

In addition, 7 out of 8 judges who took bribes were sentenced to seven years in prison and one was acquitted. 3 court employees were also acquitted after being proved innocent.
