Canada Global(Web News) Yemen’s Houthi rebels say at least 38 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a US airstrike on the oil port of Ras Issa on Thursday.
A spokesman for the Houthi Health Ministry said in a social media post that 38 employees working at the Ras Issa port were killed and 102 injured in the US aggression. The US Central Command said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) that on Thursday, US forces attacked the oil port in Ras Issa, located in western Yemen. The statement said that the US forces carried out the attack to cut off the Houthis’ fuel supply. The attack was carried out to cut off the Houthis’ fuel supply and financial resources. The US Central Command says that the aim of this operation is to target the Houthis economically, not to harm the Yemeni people. It should be noted that airstrikes are ongoing on a daily basis on areas controlled by the Houthi in Yemen, which are being blamed on the US. Because the US launched airstrikes against the Houthis on March 15 to prevent them from targeting ships in important international shipping lanes.
The Houthi rebels have targeted not only US military aircraft but also Israel, describing these actions as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people of Gaza. After the war in Gaza began in October 2023, the Houthis began targeting ships heading to the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and Israeli territory. However, these attacks were stopped during a temporary ceasefire in January.
In early March, Israel cut off all supplies to Gaza and resumed its military operations on March 18, ending a brief ceasefire. When Israel resumed its siege of Gaza, the Houthis threatened to attack the ships again, after which the United States also began airstrikes on them.
