IHC suspends Imran Khan’s sentence in Toshakhana case

Canada Global (Web News) The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s sentence imposed on him in the Toshakhana case was stayed on Tuesday by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The IHC made public the brief decision it had reserved a day earlier ordering the authorities to grant the PTI leader bail.

The court declared that the specifics of the sentence suspension would be included in the comprehensive decision that would be delivered later.

Sources claim that the PTI leader has been instructed to provide a Rs. 100,000 surety bond in lieu of the bail.

The decision is a significant success for Khan in his legal battle against his conviction and sentence imposed in the Toshakhana case.

Khan was found guilty of corrupt practises related to the state gift repository earlier this month, and a district and sessions court in the federal capital sentenced him to three years in prison and assessed a fine of Rs100,000 as punishment. This decision disqualified Khan from running in the upcoming elections.

Immediately following the trial court’s decision on August 5, the former prime minister—who has been barred from holding any public office as a result of the conviction—was detained and has since been held at Attock prison.

Lahore High Court grants bail to Sheikh Rashid

Canada Global (Web News) Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday in a case involving claims that Asif Ali Zardari was involved in a murder conspiracy.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued the verdict reserved earlier in the day after hearing arguments from Barrister Salman Akram Raja, the attorney representing the former interior minister, and Islamabad Advocate General Jahangir Khan Jadoon in the case. The AML director must present surety bonds totaling Rs. 50,000, under the court’s decision.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Peoples Party clashed when Sheikh Rashid made a statement that was carried on TV channels, according to Mr. Raja, who claimed there was no proof of this during the hearing (PPP).

The government attorney advised the AML-chief to speak out with additional caution because he is a senior lawyer. Asif Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, he claimed, had been publically humiliated by Sheikh Rashid.

At which point, Mr. Raja argued that the attorney general was making pointless arguments.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), according to a case investigation officer, provided details of Sheikh Rashid’s statement to the court. He further stated that Sheikh Rashid claimed to have learned of the alleged assassination plan against Asif Zardari from PTI Chairman Imran Khan. He claimed that the AML chief was unable to back up his claims with facts.

Authorities are investigating how, despite the presence of security, the shooter managed to enter the high court building.

The police official responded that they were checking into the high court’s security measures and that if any flaws were discovered, appropriate action would be taken.

According to information, Aftab Afridi was travelling with his wife, a 1-and-a-half-year-old grandson, and his daughter-in-law from Peshawar to Islamabad via Swabi in April 2021 when unknown gunmen assaulted his car near the Ambar Interchange.

Latif, who was the SCBA’s president at the time, said that he and his son were not involved in the incident.

The judge’s family, on the other hand, disputed the verdict and asked the high court for justice during a news conference, claiming they had proof of the lawyer’s involvement in the murder.

SCBA made a statement condemning the horrific killing of Afridi and vowed to boycott judicial proceedings tomorrow (Tuesday). The association urged the government to take strong action to stop the killings of attorneys.
