Canada Global (Web News) Polling for the third and final phase of local body elections is taking place today in three districts of Mirpur Division of Azad and Jammu Kashmir.
Polling for union and district council seats in Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimbar is underway and will continue till 5 pm.
Over 1.23 million people will exercise their right to vote, with 2188 polling stations set up in Mirpur division, the Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir said in a statement.
Officials said that 10,985 personnel of AJK Police, Rangers and Punjab Police have been deployed across the division to maintain law and order situation. Pakistan Army troops will be available to local authorities as a quick response force.
In the second phase, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf won the maximum number of seats in the Union and District Councils of Poonch Division of the region. PTI won 229 Union Council seats and 30 District Council seats.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch division, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) came third with 129 seats, while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) bagged 104 seats.
Jammu Kashmir People’s Party (JKPP) got 28, All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (MC) got 22, Tehreek-e-Labeek (TLP) got 7, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and Jamaat-e-Islami got Won 7 seats. JI) won four seats in the LG elections.
