Speaking to the media in Ottawa on Thursday, Canada’s federal health minister said he was deeply troubled by Smith’s policy announcement. Engaging in this sort of thing is extremely dangerous. Holland was among a number of federal cabinet ministers who have already spoken out against Smith’s policy announcement. Shortly after her policy was posted on social media, advocates for the LGBTQ2 community, and transgender youth in particular, spoke out to express serious concerns about the policy, warning that they believed it would be “unacceptable” in Alberta. It can seriously affect the mental health and physical safety of many young people.
