Models walked the runway wearing asymmetrical gowns and capes, two-toned suit jackets with triangular-shaped lapels, glossy gold bottoms, and skinny ties with an arrow-like tip.

Across the street from France’s Elysee Palace, spinning holograms were projected in the store’s windows, and one model carried the three-dimensional representation in her handbag.

For the first time in decades, French label Pierre Cardin returned to the official Paris fashion week schedule, releasing a colourful, offbeat lineup of styles reminiscent of its space age heyday.

Dior channels rebellious women at Paris Fashion Week

Canada Global (Web News) As the industry looks to the future with all the final fall trends, attention has turned from Milan to the final round of ready-to-wear shows in Paris.

This week, however, the French capital will also pay tribute to the past with displays honouring the recently passed away fashion icons Paco Rabanne and Vivienne Westwood.

At the Tuileries gardens in Paris, visitors saw a bizarre and vibrant organic world.

A stunning Dior display, resembling a giant octopus, covered the entire runway, its colourful fabric tendrils sparkling with tens of thousands of tiny lights. Joana Vasconcelos, a Portuguese artist, created it in order to investigate the relationship between organic form and the “feminine world of artisanal savoir-faire.” Given the bustle of paparazzi cameras capturing pictures of attendees like model Elle Macpherson, K-pop singer Jisoo, and actors Maisie Williams and Charlize Theron, it made for a stunning backdrop.

Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri utilised the past as a touchstone while creating the clothing, which resulted in less exuberance but no less flare than the futuristic-looking decor.

Chanel strikes playful note at haute couture show in Paris

Canada Global (Web News) Chanel’s spring haute couture show, the French fashion house’s creative director Virginie Viard took a daring turn, sending models out in the form of massive, cartoonish animals made of cardboard and wood.

They emerged one at a time, circling the giant statues like ringmasters in bouncy cheerleading miniskirts, floral jumpsuits, and gleaming tweed jackets.

First appearance set the tone: an ivory double-breasted coat with a miniskirt with fluffy fringe poking out from beneath it before bursting out.

The model’s long, bare legs were accented by flat slingback shoes, and she wore a black top hat with a slightly sloping brim on her head.

Larger skirts, Viard usually offered trim silhouettes with just the right amount of flounce, or she limited the colour palette when it came to embellished styles, like a full-length ivory coat covered in ruffled pleats.

For the grand finale, an elephant-shaped structure rolled in, and the bride emerged wearing a light ivory tulle bustier dress that sat just above the knee and gold boots that rose above her ankles.

As the audience applauded, Viard drew the set designer, artist Xavier Veilhan, from the risers for her bow.

Kate Middleton wore Bahraini pearl earrings during Remembrance Day weekend.

Canada Global (Web News) The UK’s Princess of Wales Kate Middleton commemorated Remembrance Day by wearing the same Bahraini pearl earrings she wore to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Since the end of the First World War, member states of the Commonwealth have observed this day as a way to pay tribute to those who have served in the armed forces.

The princess chose to wear the late king’s pearls during the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, paired with a Japanese four-strand necklace.
At the funeral for the queen in September, she made the same choice.

The earrings have round diamond studs with baguette-cut diamonds set in a design that was popular in the late 1940s, and the drops are pearls.

Two of the seven pearls the Queen received as a wedding gift from Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa of Bahrain in 1947 were used to make the earrings.
