Nepra forms a committee to investigate a major power outage

Canada Global (Web News) The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) established a five-person committee to investigate the severe national grid failure that occurred on January 23 and caused the worst electricity outage in months across the entire country, paralysing life and exposing the nation’s shoddy infrastructure.

The committee was formed, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, at the Standing Committee on Energy’s request to look into the cause of the power outage.

Three technical specialists have been added to the group, which will be led by the Nepra adviser, and the report will be delivered to the Nepra chairman within a month, according to additional sources.

Police associations to investigate officer killings after recent deaths

Canada Global (Web News) Some of the biggest police associations in Canada claim they are working together to figure out what led to the deaths of five officers in the last four months.

The Toronto Officers Association, the Ontario Provincial Police Association, the Canadian Police Association, and the Police Association of Ontario have announced that they are joining forces to analyse the relevant issues and then urge for reform to stop the “wave of violence” against police.

About 60,000 sworn and civilian police officers are represented by the associations, who say they will evaluate judicial and public policy frameworks, including bail and sentencing procedures.

Additionally, they said they’ll look at the “growing and chronic” scarcity of police personnel and whether Crime Stoppers initiatives need to be strengthened.

OPP Const. Greg Pierzchala, 28, was shot on December 27 while responding to a call about a car in a ditch west of Hagersville, Ontario. His burial was held on Wednesday.
