Punjab interim govt will hold elections as per ECP’s directives

Canada Global (Web News) On Tuesday, the interim administration in Punjab said that it would begin preparing for elections in accordance with directives from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Mohsin Naqvi, the interim chief minister of Punjab, said the caretaker administration would work with the ECP.

On the other hand, the ECP convened a consultative meeting for Wednesday to discuss elections in Punjab as the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued the decision it had reserved on the polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to sources, the ECP would review the Supreme Court’s judgement and provide a legal update to the commission’s meeting about the May 14 elections.

After hearing arguments from the parties involved, the three-member bench of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and including Justices Munib Akhtar and Ijazul Ahsan, rendered the unanimous judgement reserved on Monday. Also, it was decided that the ECP’s postponing of the elections constituted an unlawful conduct.
