Ontario ER, urgent care centre to temporarily close amid labour shortages

Canada Global (Web News) The latest in a string of recent temporary ER and urgent care centre closures in the province, a hospital in southwest Ontario has announced that its emergency department would close overnight on Thursday.

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance did not provide a justification for the temporary closure of the Clinton Public Hospital in its announcement, but staffing issues have repeatedly forced the organisation to close three of its community hospital emergency rooms, including the one in Clinton, Ontario, this year.

According to the most recent data from Statistics Canada, job openings in the health care industry were at an all-time high nationwide and were heading upward, even as recent increases in labour shortages in other significant sectors appeared to be slowing down.

Following its closure on December 25 due to the same reason, Hamilton Health Sciences reports that its urgent care facility will be shuttered once more on January 1 due to “physician pressures.”
