Canada Global (Web News) Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, hit a number of significant milestones during his century against New Zealand on the first day of the two-Test series in Karachi.
By defeating England’s Joe Root, the captain became the top Test scorer in 2022.
Additionally, he tied Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara’s record for the most 50+ scores in international cricket in a calendar year and set the record for the most international runs by a Pakistani batter in a year across all forms.
On Monday morning, as Babar reached the 13th run of his innings, he passed Mohammad Yousaf to take the title of Pakistan’s top run scorer in a calendar year of international cricket.
Yousaf scored 2,435 runs in 39 innings in all three forms in 2006. Babar needed 51 innings to break Yousaf’s previous record of 16 years. He is also the first Pakistani to score more than 2,500 runs in an international cricket calendar year.
In the list of the most 50+ scores in a calendar year, Babar and Kumar Sangakkara are at the top after reaching their 50.
Sangakkara received 25 scores of 50 or higher in 2014.
Babar has batted in 51 innings, whereas the Sri Lankan player took 56 innings to reach the milestone.
In 2022, Babar surpassed England’s Joe Root to become the Test cricket player with the most runs scored. Babar overtook Root when he reached 90 in his innings.
