Canada Global(Web News) Keith Barker, a left-arm bowler for the English county of Hampshire, has been banned from all forms of cricket for 12 months, effective from July 2024.
Barker was suspended by the cricket regulator in July 2024 after testing positive for indapamide in a doping test in May last year. The bowler later admitted breaching two provisions of the English Cricket Board’s anti-doping regulations at a hearing on March 5 last month and will now be able to play cricket again from July 4 this year. Although indapamide is on WADA’s 2024 list of prohibited substances, it is also used to treat high blood pressure. The drug was prescribed to Keith as an alternative to a previous medication that he had been using for a long time, but because it was not disclosed to UK Anti-Doping at the time of use, his application for an exemption to use it was rejected. The review panel accepted Keith’s position that he did not breach anti-doping rules and did not intend to enhance performance, and imposed a 12-month ban for the breach.
