The latest proposed changes will be announced today by Labor Secretary David Picchini. Picchini will then introduce new labor laws. Puccini said that although it is already the law that employees will be paid for the hours they work, many places still have unpaid trial shifts in restaurants in the name of the interview process. Therefore, it is important to eliminate this trend at the highest level.
Similarly, labor laws already prohibit employers from deducting their employees’ allowances for stolen goods, Picchini said, but the new proposal would introduce tougher rules to prevent all of that. In addition, Picchini said more people use digital payment apps these days, and some employers even charge their workers in exchange for tips. But the bill would ensure that employees who receive tips through direct deposit will be able to decide where the money is deposited.
