Two Suspects Arrested For Using Freight Train To Transport People Across The Border

 Canada Global(Web News)When officers searched the suspect’s car, they found 28 Mexican nationals and one Colombian national hiding, according to an affidavit in a Seattle court on Friday.

Police said less than two months later, border agents at Peace Arch stopped another freight train at night and found 13 Mexican nationals aboard, two of them bound for Ortiz Plaza, B.C. Went and admitted to paying 8 thousand dollars.

Jesus Ortiz Plata, 45, of Oregon, and Juan Pablo Cuellar Medina, 35, of Washington, were arrested Thursday along with three other immigrants suspected of being smuggled across the BC-Washington border.
Both men are charged with conspiracy to transport a non-citizen for personal financial gain. Each could face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
U.S. Attorney Tessa Gorman said in a statement that they were allegedly involved in an extremely dangerous smuggling scheme where people were loaded into freight cars on trains traveling from Canada to the United States.
