Canada Global(Web News)Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni in Toronto on Saturday, where they agreed to establish a Canada-Italy roadmap for better cooperation.
The two Prime Ministers issued a joint statement saying that the agreement will deepen their countries’ political, economic and strategic ties and lay out plans for cooperation in the next three to five years in priority areas.
These include energy security and the transition to a sustainable energy future, climate change and biodiversity, migration, sustainable economic development, and research and innovation.
The two G-7 members plan to review progress on the development of the roadmap at a meeting in Italy this June.
Trudeau praised Maloney’s leadership as Italy chairs this year’s G7 summit, adding that he looks forward to working with him to secure Canada’s tenure as host in 2025.
Trudeau says Canada and Italy are “aligned on many things and have a very deep and growing economic relationship.”
“We’re starting a new year in our relationship trying to expand our cooperation and I think there are a lot of topics where we can do that,” Maloney said.
