Truck crash in New Orleans leaves 10 dead, 30 injured

Investigators find suspected improvised explosive device at scene of accident that injured 30 people.

Canada Global (Web News) At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured when a truck intentionally sped into a crowd on Canal and Bourbon Streets in New Orleans’ French Quarter early Wednesday morning, city officials reported.

The incident occurred during New Year’s Eve celebrations at the popular tourist destination.

The FBI discovered a suspected improvised explosive device at the scene, though it has not been confirmed as viable. Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick stated the driver aimed to strike as many people as possible, and after crashing, fired on police, injuring two officers. More than 300 officers were on duty at the time, and the FBI is leading the investigation.

Governor Jeff Landry condemned the attack as a “horrific act of violence,” urging people to avoid the area. The injured were transported to multiple hospitals.
