Canada Global (Web News) As hydro crews continue to try to restore electricity to people affected by the power outages caused by the harsh winter storms last week, thousands of Canadians are spending another day in the cold and darkness.
Less than 70,000 Hydro-Québec customers, fewer than 30,000 Hydro One customers, and fewer than 2,000 NB Power customers were still without power as of early Monday morning.
According to New Brunswick Power, this is one of the biggest provincial-wide outage events in the previous 25 years. As of Monday morning, more than 99,000 customers had their power restored thanks to the efforts of more than 500 resource employees.
Since the start of the inclement weather, Hydro One claims to have restored power to more than 412,000 customers; but, ongoing road closures are limiting the access that its personnel can make to restricted areas.
