The First Phase Of The Alberta Pension Plan Engagement Has Been Completed

Canada Global(Web News)Alberta Pension Plan Engagement Panel is giving the Office of the Chief Actuary of Canada some time to release the results before holding a new public meeting.

This fall, the Alberta Pension Plan Engagement Panel, led by former provincial treasurer Jim Dining, invited Albertans to discuss the findings of an independent report on a potential provincial pension plan. With more than 76,000 Albertans participating in five telephone town hall meetings and more than 94,000 Albertans completing an online survey, the first phase of the engagement is now complete and the panel will now assess what it has done so far. Albertans can make sure their voices are heard, and that’s why I introduced the Alberta Pension Protection Act, which gives Albertans the confidence that their pension contributions are being paid. are safe and we will not move forward on the provincial plan without their say through referendum. It is a complex process and one we will not take lightly.

During this first phase of engagement it was immediately clear that if the Alberta Canada Pension

Albertans want more accurate information about the asset transfer value that Alberta will be entitled to receive if the plan is withdrawn, while the LifeWorks report relies on publicly available data to provide a reasonable asset transfer value. After discussions between Canadian finance ministers , the federal

finance minister asked the Chief Actuary of Canada about Alberta’s share of CPP assets. The Alberta government is hopeful that this work can be completed quickly so that Albertans have as much information as possible while they consider the possibility of a new plan before holding new public meetings for that purpose. The panel decided to give Canada’s Chief Actuary some time to release its findings.

We are pleased with the number of Albertans we have engaged in our consultation to date. It’s that they want to hear how the federal government calculates the number of asset transfers. Encourage them to take a look at our workbook and give their feedback there
