The Elementary Teachers’ Federation Of Ontario, Canada, Supported The Strike

Canada Global(Web News)The majority of Ontario’s public elementary teachers have voted in favor of going on strike. 95 percent of Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) members have voted to strike if necessary. ETFO president Karen Brown said in a release that the decision to strike had fallen on deaf ears.

He said that our members have been working without a contract for more than a year and their patience is about to run out. We want the government to stop the policy of avoidance and seriously consider the basic priorities of its members. These priorities include providing more support to students with special needs, addressing the staffing crisis in education, considering offering fair compensation and taking steps to prevent violence in schools.
It should be noted that the negotiations in this regard are still ongoing and no announcement has been made about when the strike will be held by the union. Meanwhile, in a statement released on social media, Ontario Education Minister Stephen Leshe called the news of the strike a very disappointing decision. He blamed the ETFO for not completing the agreement. The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association will also hold a strike vote on Wednesday or Thursday.
