Canada Global(Web News)Average hourly wages in Canada rose at an annual rate of 5.1 per cent in May, up from 4.8 per cent in April, according to Statistics Canada’s latest jobs survey.
That means the average worker earned $34.94 an hour last month, which is $1.69 more than last year’s average wage.
Employment was little changed and the unemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage points to 6.2 per cent in May 2024, even
as Canadian jobs remained relatively stable,
according to Statistics Canada. Last month, young women aged 15 to 24 and 55 Employment increased for women aged 10 years and older.
The unemployment rate rose to 6.2 per cent in May from just 0.1 per cent last month.When
it comes to employment among provinces, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan saw increases, while Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island saw increases. A decrease was observed in the island.
As the nation sees annual average wages rise, minimum wage workers are also on the rise.
BC’s minimum wage rose by 3.9% on June 1. The province’s lowest-paid workers were raised from $16.75 an hour to $17.40 an hour.
