After removing several scenes, the full board approved the local showing of Joyland. The movie was originally scheduled to open for business in Pakistan on November 18.

Following several complaints, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has prohibited the country’s cinemas from showing the critically acclaimed movie Joyland.

In her message on social media, Maria B demanded a ban on the release of the film Joyland in Pakistan, saying that Saim Sadiq’s film is not for transgender rights, but for promoting homosexuality in Islamic society.

Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan called for the film’s suspension after seeing the trailer and alleging in a tweet that it attempted to promote homosexuality and other vices. A strategy has been developed to undermine Pakistani ideals through movies.

The story of the film revolves around a young man and a transgender who fall in love while working in a dance club. The film was awarded the Cannes: Queer Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival, which is given exclusively to such films.
