Data obtained through access to information requests to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) shows the number of study permits granted to foreign students to attend post-secondary institutions across the country each year since 2018.
An analysis of the data shows what is shaping up to be a nationwide explosion in the number of international students that has prompted Ottawa to immediately impose a two-year cap at
30 Canadian colleges and universities. Of those that granted the most international study permits last year, all but one are public.
