Many Albertans have expressed growing disillusionment with the purpose and use of photo radar. To respond to these concerns, the Government of Alberta implemented a moratorium on new photo radar equipment and locations on December 1, 2019.
After collecting data from across the province, the Alberta government is taking the first step to ban imaging radar on ring roads in Calgary and Edmonton starting Dec. 1. In addition, the Government of Alberta will work with municipalities and law enforcement agencies over the next year. Image radar will only be used to improve traffic safety.
