Lt Gen Faiz Hamid files for early retirement, according to sources.

Canada Global (Web News) One of Pakistan’s senior military officials, Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, the Corps Commander for Bahawalpur, has applied for early retirement from the army, according to sources.

Lt Gen Hamid was one of the six senior army officers proposed by General Headquarters (GHQ) for the army chief’s position, for which the appointments were finalised last week. Lt Gen Hamid also served as the head of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

According to sources, the Corps Commander in Bahawalpur has asked the GHQ in Rawalpindi for his early retirement.

Days after the federal government named Gen. Asim Munir as the new chief of army staff and Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee, a new development occurred (CJCSC).

According to his brother, Lt Gen Azhar Abbas, the Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Pakistani Army, has also applied for an early retirement. He was also one of the most senior officers.

The decision to seek an early retirement by CGS Lt Gen Abbas was made, his brother said on Friday.

In order to maintain his grace, honour, and dignity as a decorated officer of the Pakistani Army, he stated, “I affirm that Lt Gen Azhar Abbas has sought an earlier retirement.”
