Karen Littlewood of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) said there is always violence in the classroom. He said that he started teaching in 1991 but now the incidents of violence have increased a lot.
According to a survey conducted by the OSSTF, 35 percent of teachers admitted to having been physically abused. Similarly, 80 percent of teaching assistants admitted to physical violence against them. Littlewood said these statistics are alarming. Students see such incidents. It is noteworthy that last month at a school in Oshawa, more than 20 elementary teachers refused to come to work in an unsafe environment. A statement issued by the ETFO said that school administrations are ignoring misbehavior and that school boards are making violence a common occurrence in schools. The teachers then returned to work after negotiations with the Durham District School Board.
