Canada Global (Web News) Gaza ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas in the Egyptian capital Cairo ended inconclusively.
The latest talks in Cairo to revive the Gaza ceasefire deal and release Israeli hostages ended without any progress. Sources said on Monday that Hamas maintained its position that any agreement must result in a complete end to the war. Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza last month after a ceasefire deal reached in January failed and said it would continue the attacks until Hamas was completely defeated. Hamas says it is ready to hand over the hostages in exchange for an end to the war and a withdrawal from Gaza, but the Israeli proposal does not call for a complete end to the war but only for the return of the hostages. Egypt has called on Hamas to surrender in the new ceasefire proposal.
A senior Hamas official told Arab media that Egypt has presented Hamas with a new ceasefire proposal, but it clearly states that no agreement with Israel is possible unless Palestinian resistance groups lay down their arms. The Hamas official said that Hamas’s position is that any agreement must be based on an end to the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza and the withdrawal of the occupying forces. The official said that no talks are possible regarding Hamas’ weapons. According to the Hamas leader, the Egyptian proposal also includes a 45-day temporary ceasefire in exchange for allowing food and shelter supplies to enter Gaza.
