Canada Global (Web News) Vancouver Police Deputy Chief Fiona Wilson says the Vancouver department opened an investigation on Oct. 28 at the request of Central Saanich Police after the woman came forward with her alleged crimes.
Police say Sgt. Matthew Ball, 43, and Const. Ryan Johnston, 40, broke up with a woman in her mid-20s who they met while on duty and it does not appear the two officers worked together.
Wilson said the current evidence suggests each officer had separate, intimate and inappropriate relationships with the woman at different times. Wilson says
Ball was hired by Central Saanich Police in 2016 after 12 years of service with Calgary Police.
In a statement, Calgary Police said it had been informed that a former member of its force had been charged with sexual assault and breach of trust.
“We are deeply disappointed that this former member is accused of behaving in this way,” the CPS statement reads. “This conduct does not reflect the values of our service, nor the good work done every day by the majority of our members.”
The CPS says they have fully cooperated with the Vancouver Police Department during the investigation.
Johnston, the other officer accused, has been with Central Saanich Police since 2017.
