Canada Global(Web News) According to information provided by the York Region Medical Officer of Health, a person with symptoms of measles (measles) was in close contact with students and teachers at North High School in Toronto.
Last week, 1,500 students and 150 staff members at a school in York Region were notified that they had been in contact with someone with measles, Dr. Barry Pax said. The person with measles is in his 30s and has no history of travel or exposure to a sick person.
Pax said students and staff who may have been in contact with the man were called to the immunization clinic Sunday and a large number of people arrived. Pax said the school has a measles vaccination rate of more than 95 percent. Students who cannot provide proof of two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) will not be allowed to return to school until March 15. Public Health Ontario has so far confirmed five cases of measles in the province and says only one of them has a travel history.
