Canada Global(Web News) A former Edmonton club promoter who was convicted of sexually assaulting five women in Edmonton in 2020 has been granted one day of parole. Matthew McKnight, 37, will be granted day parole in a Feb. 16 decision by the Parole Board of Canada.
He will reside in a community-based residential facility approved by the Correctional Service of Canada, pending the availability of bed space. He was denied full parole.
McKnight was accused of sexually assaulting 13 women between the ages of 18 and 22 between 2010 and 2016.
The court heard that McKnight often assaulted women. He pleaded not guilty, but a jury convicted him on five counts.
McKnight was initially sentenced to eight years in prison. However, in March 2023, the Alberta Court of Appeal increased his sentence to 11 years. The Crown argued that he offered the women free booze in bars and raped them in his city apartment.
