Canada Global(Web News) Five public-private partnership (P3) high schools have completed construction, opening their doors to new classrooms for more than 6,900 students across Alberta this fall.
More families than ever are moving to Alberta, and the Government of Alberta is building new schools across the province to quickly and efficiently meet the needs of communities. As part of Alberta Infrastructure’s approach to building schools, P3 delivery is used when the goal is to complete multiple projects on time and at a cost to taxpayers.
Through this state-of-the-art P3 construction, the Government of Alberta saved $114.5 million to provide high-needs schools located in Blackfalds, Langdon, Leduc and two in Edmonton. These savings are calculated based on costs compared to delivering high schools using other methods. The P3 project also injected millions of dollars into these local communities and supported nearly 1,700 construction-related jobs.
“The Government of Alberta is committed to building the school infrastructure that students across the province need. P3 construction represents our commitment to ensuring school buildings, and Alberta taxpayers, get the best value for their investment. I Can’t wait for the students to enjoy their new spaces.”
“We’re building schools in Alberta’s fastest-growing communities for students to get the most out of their education, make lifelong friends and discover their passions,” said Pete Guthrie, Minister of Infrastructure It will create more than 6,900 jobs to do.”
According to Demetrios Nicolaides, the Minister of Education, bundling the projects saves money because it creates efficiencies in the construction process and saves five high schools when materials are purchased in bulk This P3 bundle includes:
• Iron Ridge Secondary Campus in Blackfalds, Wolf Creek Public Schools
• Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School in Edmonton, Edmonton Public Schools
• Father Michael in Edmonton Father Michael McCaffery Catholic High School, Edmonton Catholic Schools
