Canadians are advised to use face masks indoors by federal health experts.

Canada Global (Web News) During a COVID-19 update on Thursday morning, federal health officials recommended Canadians to continue taking other public health precautions and to wear face masks indoors.

The impact of an autumn rise in influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 cases on hospitals and vulnerable people will need to be lessened in the coming weeks, according to Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s senior public health officer.

“Vaccine plus layers can provide great protection against COVID-19 as well as other infectious diseases we may meet,” Tam said. “Although no individual layer of protection is perfect, when utilised consistently and together, they can provide the best protection.”

Dr. Tam urged Canadians to wear well-fitting face masks indoors and in places with poor ventilation where physical separation is not possible, to make sure they are up to date on their COVID-19 booster shots and flu shots, to practise good hand hygiene, and to make sure they have good hand washing routines.

Only 49.6% of Canadians had received one booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccination as of October 9 according to the Government of Canada, and 14.3% had received two booster doses.

According to Tam, just roughly 6.5% of the youngest children have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
