Canada Global(Web News) Canada summoned Russia’s ambassador on Wednesday to protest the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and demanded an investigation from the Kremlin, a government spokesman said.
A senior Global Affairs Canada official met with Ambassador Oleg Stepanov to express Canada’s “strongest condemnation” of Navalny’s death in Russian custody, a spokesman for Foreign Affairs Minister Melania Jolie’s office said in a statement
. The official also called on the Kremlin to conduct a full and transparent investigation into the death and return Navalny’s body to his family without delay.
Russia’s prison agency said Navalny, who is serving a 19-year sentence in a penal colony in the Arctic. was biting, lost consciousness after a walk and passed away.
