Canada Global (Web News) A little more than 62,000 members elected Nenshi as the new leader Saturday afternoon, beating Edmonton MLAs Judy Callahoe Stonehouse and Sarah Hoffman, and Calgary MLA Kathleen Ganley. A months-long leadership race has come to an end.

Nenshi won the leadership race with 62,746 votes, becoming the first person to lead the New Democrats from Calgary, and winning nearly 86 percent of the vote on the first ballot in the party’s largest and most competitive leadership contest.  fCalahoo Stonehouse received 1,222 votes, Ganley received 5,899 and Hoffman received 3,063.
Of the 85,144 members eligible to vote, 72,930 people voted in the leadership race, a record voting turnout, according to Alberta NDP chief returning officer Amanda Frestadt.
Nenshi, in his victory speech, described Premier Daniel Smith’s United Conservative government as small-minded. He said,
“This extraordinary movement that we have built together is an example of how everything is possible when we stop thinking small and start thinking big.”
Need to change into something that is going to build, build and only build
