Canada Global (Web News) According to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, just six FIRs out of 499 cases could be heard in military tribunals because 33 persons implicated in the May 9 riots had been turned over to the military for trial.
He stated at a press conference that “14 people from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and 19 people from Punjab will be tried in military courts.”
The minister claimed that the offenders were suspected of damaging military facilities during demonstrations following Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. “The question is how they got there,” Mr. Sanaullah stated in reference to the individuals who violated property rights and penetrated critical defence installations.
Mr. Sanaullah dispelled the myth that all trials would be held in military tribunals by stating that the military will look at the cases but not take cognizance of them. If the Army Act or the Official Secrets Act apply, the military tribunals will determine this.
The interior minister claims that around 4,000 persons were detained in Pakistan as a result of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2,588 of whom were in Punjab and 1,099 in KP.
He claimed that Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, had made it plain that people who were innocent in connection with the violent protests that took place in the nation on May 9 wouldn’t face punishment. The minister stated, “The premier is focused on this that no innocent should be harmed.”
