Calgary police warn of winter driving conditions

Canada Global (Web News) Calgary is once again experiencing winter, and the deep snow has made navigating the city difficult.

A collision on southbound Deerfoot Trail N.E. at Airport Trail N.E. just after 11 a.m. stopped the left lane but was resolved within an hour.

Approximately 65 kilometres north of Calgary, right east of Carstairs, a significant multi-vehicle incident took place at around 11:25 a.m., blocking the northbound lanes of the QE II.

Before midday, a collision forced the closure of northbound Stoney Trail N.E. between 16 Avenue N.E. and McKnight Boulevard N.E.

Various other collisions were recorded all across the city.

After three to five centimetres of snow fell in the Calgary area by seven in the morning, city snow teams were out early.

The City of Calgary said that personnel cleared priority routes early in the morning and laid down traction-enhancing material where necessary.
