Cristiano Ronaldo makes history as first male player to score in five World Cups

Canada Global (Web News) Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty in Portugal’s 3-2 victory over Ghana on Thursday, becoming the first male player in history to score at five World Cups.

After netting the 65th-minute penalty kick, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who had already scored in each of the previous four competitions, now has eight World Cup goals to his credit.

In a week when Manchester United announced that the two sides had mutually agreed to dissolve the forward’s contract with immediate effect after he gave a combustible TV interview, Ronaldo’s good news was much-needed.

Ronaldo won the subsequent penalty by positioning his body in front of Mohammed Salisu and collapsing to the ground as soon as he felt pressure coming from behind. Without a doubt, he converted the penalty, firing it into the top corner of the goal before sprinting to his adoring fans to celebrate.

Andre Ayew brought Ghana back into the game shortly after, but Portugal quickly responded with two more goals.

Osman Bukari’s late header gave Ghana a little opportunity of a comeback but Joo Félix restored the advantage and Rafael Leo added a third.
