Canada Global (Web News) Elon Musk has postponed the relaunch of his Twitter paid subscription service after the billionaire’s overhaul of the platform’s verification policies resulted in an increase in impostor accounts.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who bought Twitter for $44 billion last month, said the launch would be delayed by two weeks to ensure it is “rock solid.”
Musk tweeted on Tuesday, “Punting relaunch of Blue Verified to November 29th to ensure that it is rock solid.”
Musk’s earlier decision to offer Twitter’s blue checkmark to any user for $7.99 a month resulted in a flood of impersonator accounts, including fake profiles of former US President Donald Trump and NBA star LeBron James.
In an effort to clear up confusion and misinformation on the platform, Twitter suspended the new subscription service last week and added grey “official” badges to the profiles of public figures and major corporations.
The initial Twitter verification system provided a free checkmark to verified notable people and accounts deemed to be of general interest.
The prior checkmark policy, which was put in place to stop accounts from mimicking public figures, was criticised by Musk as a “lords and peasants system.”
Following weeks of frantic upheaval at the social media behemoth that included enormous layoffs, high-profile resignations, and fleeing advertisers, Twitter has announced its most recent intentions.
