Canada Global (Web News) The UK’s Princess of Wales Kate Middleton commemorated Remembrance Day by wearing the same Bahraini pearl earrings she wore to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Since the end of the First World War, member states of the Commonwealth have observed this day as a way to pay tribute to those who have served in the armed forces.
The princess chose to wear the late king’s pearls during the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, paired with a Japanese four-strand necklace.
At the funeral for the queen in September, she made the same choice.
The earrings have round diamond studs with baguette-cut diamonds set in a design that was popular in the late 1940s, and the drops are pearls.
Two of the seven pearls the Queen received as a wedding gift from Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa of Bahrain in 1947 were used to make the earrings.
