An Ottawa Firefighter Was Injured While Battling A Basement Fire In Blackburn Hamlet

Canada Global(Web News) A firefighter suffered minor injuries while dealing with a basement fire in Blackburn Hamlet on Tuesday afternoon.

Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting black smoke at a home in the 1-100 block of Tauvette Street around 4:15 p.m.
The homeowner met firefighters outside upon arrival and confirmed that everyone had made it out of the home safely.
Firefighters launched a rapid attack, entering the home with a hose line, while a secondary crew began pouring water through a basement window.
OFS said the integrity of the main level floor was compromised by the heat and flames, posing a hazard to firefighters working inside the home.
OFS public information officer Nick DeFazio said a drill nozzle was put into the first floor and the basement was sprayed to extinguish the flames.
Firefighters then made their way into the basement and completely extinguished the remaining flames, opening several walls and using a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire had not spread.
The fire was brought under control at 5:04 PM.
Two thorough searches of the structure confirmed that there were no occupants or pets inside, although one firefighter suffered smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation
