Government and public relations between Pakistan and the UK are at an unprecedented level. The British Home Minister appreciated the performance and services of Mohsin Naqvi as caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab. On this occasion, Pakistani High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Dr. Muhammad Faisal, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott and senior officials of the British Ministry of Home Affairs were also present. On this occasion, Pakistan and the United Kingdom signed a Letter of Intent to combat the threat of illegal transfer of funds, bilateral assistance in tracking crimes at air and sea borders, and combating illegal migration and organized immigration crime. Under the LOI, law enforcement and criminal justice matters will be shared between Pakistan and the UK. This measure will help in dealing with crimes like illegal immigration, drug prevention, serious crime investigation. And cooperation between the two countries on immigration related crimes will be possible. The implementation of these issues will be done by the Joint Steering Committee. The committee will include representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Police Bureau, the British High Commission and the program team.
Advance planning, sharing of international criminal conviction data and analytics for crime prevention will be supported. Improved ability to facilitate extradition requests from the UK to Pakistan and from Pakistan to the UK. The LOI will also help in creating awareness and understanding of mutual legal assistance process in both countries. The LOI also includes exchange of information, exchange of expertise, exchange of delegations, training of staff, joint ventures, holding of conferences, workshops and provision of special facilities.
