A Paper Truck Caught Fire, Closing Highway 401 For Hours

 Canada Global(Web News) After a tractor-trailer caught fire in the southbound express lane of Highway 401 in Toronto between Thursday and Friday night, the lane was closed for several hours after the fire was extinguished and the scene was cleared. . This caused a lot of trouble for drivers living in the eastern part of the GTA and had to find alternative routes.

Around 12:30 p.m., a truck loaded with paper heading towards Teda Avenue Road crashed into a guardrail on the highway, bursting into flames. Shortly after the crash, authorities shut down the westbound expressway at the Don Valley Parkway/404 interchange to clear the scene. Crews remained at the scene to remove debris and clear the roadway. Parts of the truck were removed by 7:30 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police indicated they would reopen the lanes at 8:30 a.m.
Photos showed that a large part of the tractor-trailer was burnt to ashes and scattered on the road. Police said the driver of the truck managed to get out of the truck without any injuries. He has been charged with reckless driving, police said. No one else was injured in the incident.
