A Calgary Man Has Been Sentenced To Death For Killing A 3-Year-Old Girl

Canada Global(Web News)A Calgary man will not be eligible for parole for 14 years after being convicted of second-degree murder in the 2017 beating of his girlfriend’s three-year-old daughter.

Justin Bennett was sentenced Friday morning in a Calgary courtroom.
Because Bennett has already served nearly five years behind bars, he can apply for parole in about nine years.
3-year-old Ivy Wick was injured on September 27, 2017 and died in hospital eight days later of head and brain injuries. An autopsy revealed that the child suffered severe trauma.
Sennett was charged a year later after admitting to undercover police officers that he snapped when Vick interrupted his video game. He broke the girl’s head.

In March 2021, Bennett was convicted of second-degree murder. Sentencing in the case was delayed after several lawyers were fired. He also failed in his attempt to declare a mistrial.
During a sentencing hearing in January, Vick’s mother said in a victim impact statement that Bennett took out his anger on an innocent child who did not understand why he was being punished.
