South Asian Businesses In Canada Receive Extortion Calls

Canada Global(Web News)Across Canada, South Asian businesses are being violently targeted and extortion cases have also increased.

In some cases these traders are sent phone calls or text messages demanding up to a million dollars. Then, in some cases, these traders are also threatened by shooting. These attempts can also be related to organized international extortion groups.

At least 20 companies have reported receiving such extortion calls, says Nissan Duraipa, chief of Toronto’s west police in the Peel area. After six of them refused to pay money, shots were fired at their offices, shops etc. Duhaipa said that there must be some kind of organization to carry out such activities. He said investigators are trying to determine whether organized crime from outside Canada is involved.

The mayors of Surrey, BC and Brampton, Ontario are calling on the federal Minister of Public Safety to help end the violent trend. Brijender Singh, sales manager of Brampton-based Nawab Motors, said that one day in December, he received a call regarding the recovery. A few days later someone came and opened fire on his dealership. Then a few days later shots were fired. Then a Tik Tok video was made online in the name of Harry Chatta in this regard. He is a notorious gangster from India who is known for extortion. Many other traders have also reported similar incidents and are seeking help from the government in this regard. The South Asian community is worried about the increasing number of such incidents.
