5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Various Cities Of Pakistan

The earthquake struck on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Tremors were felt in Lahore and its surrounding cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Swabi, Dir, Swat, Malakand and Chitral. The earth also shook in Peshawar, Malakand, Abbottabad and Battagram. The earthquake struck at 4:13 pm local time. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.6. The intensity was so severe that people woke up from their sleep and came out of their homes in fear. According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude and a depth of 69 km was recorded in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 108 kilometers east of the Afghan region of Kalfghan. Tremors were also felt in the Afghan province of Nuristan, while tremors were also felt in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. There was severe panic among citizens and in many areas people were seen running to open spaces and reciting the Kalima Tayyiba. No casualties or damage have been reported so far, but authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
